These Condensed Milk Nutella bars are soft, chewy, and buttery bars filled with Nutella! There's condensed milk drizzled in between the bars. They are rich in chocolate hazelnut flavour!

If you're looking for a fast and easy layer bar, this is it!

These bars have a cookie dough base layer, which is topped with dollops of Nutella. Sweetened condensed milk is poured and finished with more cookie dough on top before baking!

After making my Nutella Crumble Bars, I just knew I had to make another Nutella bar recipe soon.

    Why this recipe works

Cookie bars – The buttery cookie dough we’re making is divided and used in the base and sprinkled on top.

Easy to make – This recipe comes together in one bowl with simple, pantry ingredients.

Nutella – Gooey chocolate hazelnut goodness that is Nutella itself! Layered in between the bars.

Condensed Milk – The condensed milk in these bars acts like a glue to keep these bars together.

    Ingredients Notes

Scroll to view a few ingredients notes. Full recipe and measurements can be found in the recipe card below.

Butter – Unsalted works best for baking. This will be melted.

Brown sugar – I used dark brown sugar, but light brown works as well.

Nutella – I did use the Nutella brand, but any chocolate hazelnut spread should work the same as long as it is the same consistency.

Sweetened condensed milk – The secret glue that holds these bars together. Make sure you use sweetened condensed milk and not evaporated milk.

    Step by step instructions

Here is how to make and bake this Condensed Milk Nutella Bars. You will need an 8×8 square pan lined with parchment paper, a large mixing bowl, a spatula, and a whisk.

Step 1 – Preheat the oven to 350°F/175°C and line and grease an 8×8 inch square pan.

Step 2 – Mix ingredients. In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter, brown sugar, and white sugar. Then mix in the egg and vanilla.

Step 3 - Add in dry ingredients. Toss in flour, baking soda, and salt, and mix until a cookie dough forms.

Step 3 – Layer the bars. Place ¾ of the cookie dough into your prepared pan and press down firmly. Dollop Nutella on top. Pour condensed milk over. Top with cookie dough.

Step 4 – Bake. Bake for about 25-32 minutes or until golden brown edges and then allow to cool completely. If you slice while the bars are still warm, they’ll fall apart.

    Expert Baking Tips

Here are a few expert baking tips from my kitchen to yours!

    • Make sure you use sweetened condensed milk and not evaporated milk!
    • Allow the bars to completely cool before slicing into them. As they cool, they will set. If you slice them too early it’ll be a gooey mess!
    • To speed up the cooling process, place into the refrigerator.
    • Use good quality Nutella. I used the store brand. The cheap kind carries a different oil and won’t hold as well in these bars.

    FAQ

    Can I double this recipe?

Yes! Bake in a 9x13 pan.

What can I replace the Nutella with?

Creamy peanut butter, or peanut butter cups!

    Storing & Freezing

Condensed Milk Nutella Bars are best served at room temperature. Keep in an airtight container on your counter for up to 3 days.

You can store these bars in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

If you’d like to freeze the bars, place parchment paper in between each bar and place in a plastic bag or sealed container. Freeze for up to 3 months and thaw 2 hours prior on the counter to serve.

    Ingredients

    • 1/2 cup butter melted
    • 3/4 cups dark brown sugar
    • 1/4 cup white sugar
    • 1 egg room temperature
    • 1 tbsp vanilla
    • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 tsp baking soda
    • 1/4 tsp salt
    • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
    • 1/2 cup Nutella

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 180℃/350°F. Line an 8-by-8-inch baking pan with parchment paper and set aside.
    • Melt the butter. Once slightly cooled, add in sugars and whisk. Add the egg and vanilla and stir vigorously to combine.
1/2 cup butter, 3/4 cups dark brown sugar, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1 egg, 1 tbsp vanilla
    • Add the flour, baking soda, and salt and fold until just incorporated. Don't overmix!
      1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp salt
    • Place ¾ of the cookie dough on the bottom of your prepared pan. Make sure it's covered the entire bottom of the pan.
    • Dollop Nutella on top. It doesn't have to be an even layer. Pour sweetened condensed milk over the top. Add the remaining dough on top in irregular pieces. Some Nutella and condensed milk can be showing.
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk, 1/2 cup Nutella
    • Bake for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with no cookie dough. The edges will be firm and golden. The sweetened condensed milk could be a little jiggly, but it firms as it cools.
    • Allow the bars to completely cool. As they cool, they set. If you slice into them while they're still warm, the bars will fall apart. You can speed up the cooling process by placing them in the refrigerator.
