I loveeee M&M's. They are one of my favourite chocolate candies!

These cookies are so good! The oats add a chewy texture, and the colourful M&Ms are perfect for the season. The dough comes together in 15 minutes or less, they are that easy.

    Why this recipe works

    • Christmas cookies - The perfect cookies to make for Santa!
    • Buttery cookies – These cookies have lots of butter in them and are a good sized cookie, making the centers extra chewy with a crisp edge.
    • Easy to make – One bowl with no electric mixer required!

    Ingredients Notes

All-purpose flour - This is the flour used and it cannot be substitued for anything else.

Baking soda - Make sure it's not expired.

Butter – I used unsalted. This will be melted.

Brown sugar – I used dark brown sugar, but light brown sugar works as well.

Christmas M&M's - These are the ones I used. You can also use an off-name brand.

Eggs – Remove 2 hours before baking.

Oats - I find that rolled oats provide a chewier texture in these cookies. If you don’t have any, you can use quick oats, but keep in mind that the texture won’t be quite the same.

    Step by step instructions

Here is how to make and bake these Christmas M&M Oatmeal Cookies. You will need two trays lined with parchment paper, a large mixing bowl, a spatula, a whisk, and a standard ice cream scoop.

Step 1 – Whisk in the butter and sugar. Whisk the melted butter and brown sugar until well combined.

Step 2 - Mix the wet ingredients: Add in the egg and vanilla. Whisk until smooth.

Step 3 - Add dry ingredients. Add in the flour, oats, baking soda, and salt. Using a spatula, mix until just combined. Don't over-mix!

Step 4 - Add Christmas M&M's. Mix in the Christmas M&M's until just combined. Make sure not to over mix!

Step 5 – Scoop and bake! Scoop 6 cookie dough balls per prepared baking trays. Space the cookies 2-3 inches apart from one another and bake the cookies until the edges are a light golden brown, about 13-15 minutes.

After baking, transfer to a cooling rack. Let them cool for about 10 minutes then dig in!

    Expert Baking Tips

    • Use a gram scale for the most accurate measurements. To convert this recipe, click the ‘metric’ button next to the ingredients title on the recipe card.
    • Make sure the butter is not hot when mixing. If it is hot, the dough will be to soft and the cookies will spread to much in the oven.
    • To elevate this recipe, brown the butter.

    FAQ

    Can I double this recipe?

Yes you may. Just click the 2x option on the recipe card below. Be careful with the new measurements, I recommend using a gram scale to measure out the dry ingredients.

    Can I use other add-ins?

Yes! Use any of your favourite add-ins.

    My cookies spread to much?

This could be for a number of reasons. Most likely, your butter is still hot. Make sure it comes back down to room temp before starting to bake! I do this first before prepping the rest of my ingredients so it can cool down right away.

You may also have inaccurately measured the flour and/or oats. Make sure to use a gram scale for most accurate measurements!

    Storing & Freezing

These cookies stay fresh in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2-3 days.

To freeze these cookies, allow them to come down to room temperature. Then, place into a freezer safe Ziploc bag and freeze for up to 3 months.

When ready to eat, thaw for 1 hour. I prefer to eat mine warm!

Just a question...would these come out chewy if the cookies were made
      a little smaller?
