Ingredients Notes
Here's a list of the five ingredients we're using in this recipe
- Butter - Unsalted or salted works. This will be melted.
- Chocolate - I used a mix of hazelnut chocolate and dark chocolate. You can use any kind, chips or bars!
- Oats - Rolled oats are used in this recipe for their hearty texture. These oats are also called old-fashioned or large-flake oats in some stores. You can also use quick oats.
- Rice Krispies - I used the regular kind, but any flavour or Rice Krispies works.
- Peanut butter - I used a creamy peanut butter. You can also use a crunchy peanut butter or any other nut butter you like. Just make sure not to use natural peanut butter.
Step by step instructions
Here is how to make and bake these 5 Ingredient No Bake Rice Krispies Oat Bars. You will need a 9×9 baking pan lined with parchment paper, a large mixing bowl, and a spatula.
Step 1 – Prep. Grease the pan. For easy removal of the bars, place parchment paper on the bottom and 2 sides of the pan. Gently grease the other two sides and then set aside.
Step 2 - Melt chocolate. Using a microwave or the double boiler method, melt your chocolate until smooth and creamy. If using a microwave, melt in 20 second intervals and stir in between each time. I used a mix of hazelnut chocolate and dark chocolate.
Step 3 - Add in butter and peanut butter. Into the bowl of melted chocolate, add the butter and peanut butter. Continue stirring. Everything should melt together because of the heat from the chocolate.
Step 4 - Add in oats and Rice Krispies. Add the rolled oats and Rice Krispies cereal into the bowl, and mix until evenly coated.
Step 5 - Transfer. Add the mixture into the prepared pan and press down as evenly as possible.
Step 6 - Cool. Place into the refrigerator for 1 hour or until firm. You can also place it in the freezer to set faster.
Step 7 - Slice. Once set, slice however you'd like and enjoy! Keep the bars refrigerated in an airtight container when not eating.
These bars are so delicious and simple to make! They are a great sweet crunchy treat. The bars stay good for up to 7 days in an airtight container in the fridge.
Expert Baking Tips
Here are a few baking tips from my kitchen to yours!
- Use a gram scale. I cannot emphasize this enough! It is the most accurate way of measuring your ingredients in the kitchen. This is one of my favourites.
- Use rolled oats. Quick oats are smaller so the texture will be off, but they should still work if you need to use them.
- Keep refrigerated. These bars taste and look best when they are kept in the fridge until ready for consumption. 🙂
FAQ
Can I use chocolate chips instead of chocolate bars?
Yes. As long as it is the exact same amount grams wise, it will work.
Do I have to add oats?
No. You can substitute the 1 1/4 cups of oats with more Rice Krispies if you want.

Your chocolate amount is still in grams.

Hi Marty, I measured this recipe in grams that's why. After doing some calculations based from Google, 250g of chocolate chips is *about* 1 1/2 cups. I will update the recipe accordingly. Enjoy!

These are delicious and so simple!
They have the perfect crunch due to the rice bubbles, with the added health benefits of some oats and peanut butter.
I used natural peanut butter (because I only realised after that the recipe said not to) without issue. I think I actually preferred it this way because it wasn't a super strong peanut taste.
I am going to give them another try with almond butter to see how that changes things.

Hi Kalliste! Thank you so much for your comment. I'm glad it turned out good with the natural peanut butter, usually since it's runnier it wouldn't work out that's why I say to use creamy, so that's fantastic to know! 🙂 Let me know how it goes when you try it with almond butter. Happy to hear they were delicious!
