- Flour - All-purpose flour is used.
- Lemon juice - Adds a bit of tangy flavour to balance the sweetness.
- Peaches - Fresh, sweet peaches are used.
- Sugar - White granulated sugar adds a bit more sweetness to the crumble.
- Vanilla - A high-quality vanilla is important for baking.
Step by step instructions
Here is how to bake this easy peach crumble. You will need a 9 inch baking dish, 2 bowls, and a spatula.
Step 1: Make peach base. Slice the peaches into 6-8 slices per peach. Mix in vanilla and lemon juice. Then sprinkle cornstarch and white sugar and stir to evenly coat.
Step 2: Make crumble base. In a medium-sized bowl, add the flour, white sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir to combine. Add in the butter and with your hands, mix together until a crumb forms.
Step 3: Layer. Add the peaches on the bottom of the prepared dish and spread evenly. Then sprinkle the crumble base on top.
Step 4: Bake. Bake the crumble for 40-55 minutes or until the top is a golden brown colour. The crumble is ready when the peaches are super soft (insert a knife in to check).
Allow it to cool, scoop, and enjoy. My favourite way to eat this crumble is fresh out of the oven while it's still warm with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
FAQ
How do I store this crumble?
This crumble is best served fresh within the first two days! Once cooled, wrap the dish in saran wrap and store in the fridge. Warm up as needed.
What are the best kind of peaches to use?
Any type of peach works. The key is to have them perfectly ripe. A ripe peach is firm but not hard. When you press in with your thumb, it slightly gives in.
Can I use frozen peaches?
Fresh peaches are always best in crumbles, but you can get away with using frozen one. If using frozen peaches, thaw them out, then blot them dry. Continue on with the recipe just as you would if your peaches were fresh.
