Key Ingredients
Full recipe and ingredients are in the recipe card below. Feel free to scroll through this section to view the four ingredients we’re using!
Bananas: Very ripe bananas are needed for this recipe. There is no sugar in this recipe, so the browner the bananas are the better for sweetness.
Oats: Rolled oats also known as large flake oats are used in this recipe.
Peanut Butter: Use creamy peanut butter. Natural is too runny.
Step by step instructions
Here is how to make and bake these 4 ingredient banana oatmeal cookies. You will need one tray lined with parchment paper, a large mixing bowl, a spatula, a whisk, and a standard ice cream scoop.
Step 1: Prep. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and set aside. Then, mash the bananas in a large bowl.
Step 2 - Mix bananas and peanut butter. Add the mashed bananas and peanut butter into a large bowl and mix until well combined.

Step 3: Add in oats. Mix in the oats until completely covered and combined.

Step 4: Scoop cookies. Scoop 6 large cookies (I did about 3 tbsp per cookie) onto the baking tray spaced 1-2 inches apart and gently shape into a cookie. These cookies do not spread in the oven, so gently press them down like displayed in the images below.

Step 5: Bake the cookies. Bake six cookies at a time, for 12-15 minutes. You'll know they're ready when you gently touch the outside of the cookie and it's not sticky. The inside will still look soft, and the edges will be a light golden brown.
Step 6: Remove from the oven and allow to sit on the tray until cool. The cookies will continue to bake from the warmth!

Expert Baking Tips
Here are five awesome baking tips from my kitchen to yours
- Creamy peanut butter must be used. Natural is too runny.
- Immediately after baking, leave on the baking tray to cool for 5-10 minutes. The inside is still soft and needs to set!
- Use rolled or large flake oats. I cannot guarantee results with other kinds!
- Use fresh bananas that are very ripe. This recipe relies on very brown bananas for the sweetness.
- If using frozen bananas, allow to thaw and drain any liquid before mashing.
FAQ
My cookies aren't setting!
You probably haven't baked them long enough! Gently touch the outside of the cookie while it's still in the oven and if it's not sticky, then you know it's ready.
My cookies are too runny and messy to work with!
This probably means your peanut butter is too runny! Please use creamy room temperature peanut butter.
Can I freeze them?
Yup! Freeze in a bag for up to 1 month. It takes a few hours for it to thaw, so I usually do this when I plan on having a snack later on during the day and take it with me in the morning.
Can I add chocolate chips?
Of course! Feel free to add in any of your favourite nuts or chocolates. I would do 1/2 cup total.
