Brown Butter Nutella Blondies

Ania
These brown butter Nutella blondies are simple blondies elevated with brown butter and Nutella! The simple dough comes together in one bowl. Then, Nutella is dolloped and swirled between the two layers. So much perfect chocolate-hazelnut goodness!

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350℉/180℃. Grease an 8×8 inch square pan. For easy removal of the blondies, place parchment paper on the bottom and 2 sides of the pan. Grease again and then set side.
  • Brown the butter: Melt the butter in a medium sized pan over medium heat. Once it melts, it will crackle, then become foamy – continue mixing the butter while this happens to prevent burning. The butter will go from melted to golden brown quickly, and you'll know it's almost done when the aroma of browned butter arrives. The whole process should take about 5 minutes! Once golden, remove from heat and transfer to a glass bowl.
    3/4 cups butter
  • In a large bowl, mix together the browned butter and brown sugar.
1 1/4 cups dark brown sugar
  • Add in eggs and vanilla and continue whisking.
    2 eggs, 1 tbsp vanilla
  • Add in flour, baking soda, and salt. Using a spatula, gently fold until a soft dough forms. Don't overmix!
2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • Into your prepared pan, add 3/4's of the dough. Press down firmly into the bottom of your pan.
  • Scoop Nutella onto the base and spread into an even layer. Make sure there is about a 1-2 cm edge all around. This helps ensure your Nutella does not burn on the edges while baking.
    3/4 cups Nutella
  • Press the remainder dough on top of the bars. It's ok if some Nutella is showing through.
  • Bake for about 25-35 minutes until the edges are golden and the middle feels almost set. Cool before slicing.
  • My favourite way to eat these blondies is warm! Sometimes it can get messy but it is so worth it! Enjoy!
